The 7th color in addition to CMYKLcLm is Lk (light black / gray) which makes it easier to run black and white images without color stitching. The printer has gold-plated printheads and works with variable droplet size up to 1440 dpi resolution. The mutual color scheme of the printheads has a "smart" placement to minimize color banding. The printer comes with an improved ecosolvent ink that is better in health and the environment than previous inks, it is nickel-free and has a shorter drying time and the white ink covers better. The XR-640 is equipped with Roland's new Intelligent Pass technology which greatly reduces the risk of strapping and thus allows higher speed printing while maintaining quality. The printer is of the "Print & Cut" type, ie. it both writes in full color and outline in one step. The machine also manages to remove the material for lamination before contour cutting. An optical reading system ensures that the cut ends up in the right place. As standard, the printer has motor-driven winding, extra-long heating beds and an optical eye. As an option, there is a fan package with extra heating bed to minimize drying times.
